The KONKUSSION Program consists of:

ANNUAL BASELINE TESTING

No athlete should play a sport without a baseline test.

All KONKUSSION athletes will undergo an annual baseline test supervised by our team of healthcare professionals consisting of a:

  • Neurocognitive test (computer based)
  • Fitness test
  • Brain physiology test (for high risk athletes only)

24 HOUR ACCESS TO OUR CLINICAL TEAM

Concussions require immediate care. Parents and athletes concerned about a possible concussion have immediate access to our clinical team and will be scheduled to see our Neurosurgeon within 24 hours (no referral from a family doctor or paediatrician required).

This service is not a replacement for acute cases that require the Emergency Room.

ONGOING CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT

Our team provides state of the art management of concussions through recommendations from our Nurses, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Chiropractor, Registered Dietician and Social Worker.

In the event of a potential concussion the diagnosis is confirmed by comparing the post-injury measurements to the athlete's baseline levels. The resolution of the concussion is determined through serial testing and the return of an athlete's measurements to baseline levels. These objective tests ensure safer and faster return to play.

The ultimate decision on clearance to return safely to sport is made by our Neurosurgeon in consultation with our entire healthcare team.
